We started off Tuesday with a 3 minute drive to Shark's Cove for some snorkeling.
The bad thing about snorkeling is that when you don't have an underwater camera (which we didn't), you can't get any pics of any of the awesomeness. So we had to settle for some quick pics on the beach before we put away the camera and had fun!
The cove was a little bit rough that day, so getting out of the shallow part with rocks and reef without the waves smashing you into the rocks was a little challenging. We again realized how nice it is to be married to someone that can swim. It was so nice that we matched each other's pace exactly. No one dragging the other along.
Once we were sufficiently tired and the cove started getting busy, we headed to a beach near Chun's Reef. This beach didn't have parking for it, you had to walk a little ways, which meant we were the only ones for quite a ways. We were too busy relaxing to take pics.
We headed to our fave spot for lunch, Ted's Bakery, before our next adventure. We then hiked to Kaena Point. It is the northwestern tip of the island. It was quite a long 'hike' and we didn't really enjoy it. You had to trudge along a dirt, mud filled road for several miles. We didn't enjoy the walk, so we decided to run a good majority of the trail to get to the destination faster. The destination was totally worth it! There is a sanctuary for these birds. Too bad I can't remember what they're called.
The views were incredible!
This is the western side of the island.
On the left of the pic is the North Shore and on the right is the western side of the island.
| I found out the hard way that my workout pants provided no SPF protection and had a very painful sunburn. Ouch! |
On the rocks behind Scott you can sometimes see Sea Lions, but sadly, we didn't see any:(
If you really know Scott, you know he LOVES drinks.
I always joke that if he weren't mormon he would have a drinking problem.
He'd been eyeing these fresh coconuts that you can buy on the side of the road the entire trip. After our long hike he decided he'd earned his ice cold coconut! He thoroughly enjoyed. He made it look so delicious that I wanted to try. I was very unpleasantly surprised by how disgusting it was and had to spit it out. I don't get the coconut thing...
We then went to Matsumoto's for another round of shave ice.
After that we headed to the beach right by our apartment, Sunset Beach, where we, you guessed it, watched the Sunset! Gorgeous.
